I recently upgraded to flash 9 so I could run a game, and have been receiving the error ever since.
i tried renaming the file from "flash9.ocx" to "flash.ocx" but it wouldn't let me because it is a read-only file. By REinstalling Flash 9 and then copying and renaming the file, you're giving whatever app that's trying to access Flash (and isn't having any luck) something to find and work with. In this folder you will see a file named "Flash9f.ocx". This created "Copy of Flash9.ocx" which I then renamed to "Flash.ocx." (Thus I had "Flash.ocx" and "Flash9.ocx", both the same file with a different name in the same directory.) Sure enough, going into my screensaver options and chosing to preview this particular screensaver showed me the error.

Adobe auto-updated Flash after I'd installed the screensaver, and that's when I started getting the error. my screen saver worked in the "screen saver preview," now i just gotta wait 5 minutes to see if it really works. Uninstalling/Re-installing the flash player per Adobe's instructions did not solve the problem, but svtdragon's work-around below (as well as similar posts) did.
My moms computer was doing the same thing and you helped me fix the problem!! One component of Flash Player is a file called "flash.ocx." If this file is missing or damaged, you may get an error message. The problem is that whatever program you have that's looking for flash is looking for it as "flash.ocx" and not "flash9.ocx". Now could you help me with the darn Java.Downloaded latest version like it asked and doesn't work.HELP!!

Right click in a blank spot of the same folder and select paste. 4. Was thinking its some virus.. Is anyone else with this problem also running AOL ?
