Im getting ever increasingly worried due to the fact this OS install is brand new (3 days) I formatted my XP and installed Vista Ultimate SP1. I first opened it up and switched it to verify ALL drivers (it was previously only set to verify signed drivers) Upon start-up I got a blue screen, stating "IO system I can do a quick-scan with Microsoft Security Essentials, however a complete-scan will last in excess of 12 hours before finally crashing to a BSOD. This is totally odd, because both of those programs operate quickly on other older and slower computer sustems that I use as well. But yes I am still getting the Kernell BSOD when trying to virus scan or doing other more intensive things, but still sometimes when the system is idle too. - Again, bad hardware.
- Here are a couple of things to try: 1) Do an XP disk check by right-clicking your C: drive icon in My Computer -> Properties -> "Tools" tab -> "Check Now"

Potential hardware causes aside, the crashes are most likely the result of a rogue 3rd party driver that is hiding under the memory address range of NT at BSOD time.
